There have been instances when the fuel pump is failing but when it has been left for a time will restart the engine, check the fuel pressure from the test port, Schrader valve, on the top of the engine it should be 58 psi. When my fuel pump failed the Schrader valve still had plenty of pressure. The car also restarted some hours after cutting out then wouldn't restart. The 2 main clues are: No sound from the pump on switching on the ignition - or it sounds different to normal The spark plugs will be dry.

If the cut out had activated you wouldn't even get the feeling that the engine was trying to fire when turned over on the starter never mind firing up later. Won't do any harm pressing it though so always worth a try! It's a black rubber button behind the oil tank. If the electrics to the pump are okay but the pump itself is dodgy then you might well get enough fuel pressure for it to fire and maybe even idle but not enough for it to produce any real power when asked. You might even be able to see the 58psi with the pump running and the engine stopped but as soon as the engine runs the pressure will drop right off, it's the pressure with the engine running that really matters.

Probably best to source a Walbro pump.

Any tips on where to get a genuine Walbro pump in the US? Or if needs to be ordered from UK what would be a good source there?

These guys carry the actual pump in the US But some of the other parts you will need are hard to find. See the excellent guide on Fuel Pump Replacement on the MTWC web site. The convoluted hoses seem to be only available in the UK with this part number, although I expect there are US equivalents. And watch out for counterfeit pumps! We live in a crazy world.

I learned it all on this forum from those who suffered and learned for us. If you search there are multiple threads on this subject. This is such a great resource.

I bought my parts from Summit Racing (summitracing.com). I ordered: - Walbro Fule pump part no #GSS342BX - Installation kit #400-766 - hose # TF0001275 (these are cheap and you may as well order an extra in case you crack or stretch this one)
I have considered using a submersible hose from Gates instead of the convoluted one above, but have not changed it out yet.

Yep, another thumbs up for Summit - used them for bits when I was building my drag bike.
