So there's many opinions on this matter, and I would like to hear what TM people think about this.
Is wrapping a factory manifold a good idea? I am specifically talking about a 2018 +4. Not that it has severe temperature issues, but I would simply like to have it a bit "cooler in there".
Would the wrapping help? Does it lead to a damaged catalyst because of the higher exhaust gas temperatures? Does it accelerate corrosion? Please share your thoughts!

I had a go at wrapping my Duratec Plus 4 manifold In order to more quickly heat up the cat. First run out there was an alarming amount of smoke from the wrapping so I quickly returned home and took it off. I suspect I bought an inferior brand of wrap (on the internet).

Ok so here is what I found and I now wrap all my exhausts

The smoke is due to a little burn off of the lava rock quite normal

The under bonnet temperature will be reduced as the gases remain hotter and are expelled through the exhaust

Now here is the science...

Engines and fluid dynamics come into play and basically...the exhaust gases on a non wrapped exhaust are expelled and immediately the hot gases begin to cool in the manifold and when they cool gases 'get more dense' and this effects the extraction and thus the gas flow .by restricting or resisting flow..

On the other hand a wrapped pipe stays hotter and gases remain hot and therefore less dense and flow is improved...

Also an added benefit is that the 'noise or ring' of the pipes is muffled with the wrap..

I have noticed performace improvements dure to lower under bonnet temps and also hotter exhaust pipes...

Don’t know to much about this but when I was looking at reducing temperature in the engine bay wrapping was an option and ceramic coating was another , + and - corrosion with wrapping, cost with coating but looks good .my situation was different to yours my 3.9 V8 was running hot so I fitted a Mulfab radiator and all is well I also had a TVR chimera 4.5 V8 ,much bigger bonnet and engine bay so I just stuck the number plate on the bonnet as it was covering half the intake and that worked a treat so maybe looking at getting more airflow is an avenue? I’d be interested in your solution if you find one

I have warped the sport collector manifold of my Plus4 GDI not for the performance but for the under bonnet temperature and mostly to keep the sport catalyst the hottest possible ... More hot, more efficient and less issue with the yearly Belgium technical control

I can underline what Rob explains. As a consequence of the faster gas flow, more fresh air is also drawn in at the intake, which ultimately closes the circle and provides more power in the mid-range.

I have had the manifold of my 1.8 Duratec engine wrapped for over two years now. For all the plus reasons quoted here already and as far as I can see there is no greater indication of corrosion than that which I look upon as normal.

I wrapped the headers and the down pipe on my 2011 Supersports after advice to maintain heat in the Cat for the MOT.

I t worked..I would normaly have to drive it hard to get the Cat up to temperature and immediatley put it on the emmisions tester.

After fitment Mot passed easily..so no more MOT anxiety !!

It is normal for moisture to burn off on first start after fitment.

I used 58' of 2" wrap.
I recommend using correct stainless clips and not Jubilee clips.

One tip I'd like to pass on is that it goes on easier if you keep the wrap damp when installing it.

A plant sprayer filled with water is ideal.

Top advice that, saves on dust inhalation too as for some people the fibres are an irritant, wear some cheap disposable gloves too
