I've used a few of the accuspark 25d units on crossflows. They work well and are pretty inexpensive.

Hi TBM, I presume if you're getting a big fat spark you've checked the ignition leads for St Elmo's fire?

You'll have to help me with that one?

She is now running perfectly on points. In the last 18 months she's had new points/plugs/leads/cap/rotor.

I had a 321 electronic dizzy fitted to my '76. Never any problem with that.

I have had the Lumenition kit on my '75 4/4 for some time. Originally on the motorcraft distributor, when I changed over to an aldon, Lucas type comp dizzy, all I had to do was buy the rotor kit.
It has been fault free and over the years I have put the points back in, just to compare and the Lumenition is a better proposition in my view.

I had a Mobelec system for many years on my MGB, then one day it let me down on the road. I was only about three miles from home and I managed to coax it back, but the problem was disintegration of the plastic components due to age, after about twenty years so I can't complain.

I replaced it with Lumenition because I had that on my V8, but within a year it failed. I think it was replaced under warranty, I just don't remember, but in the end, I went back to points on the MGB.

So reliability as well as a more effective spark advance are the reasons. They are good reasons.

I’m on a different path - am not pursuing a concours style condition but I appreciate originality where it doesn’t detract from safety or pleasure. The Lucas 25D is about as evolved as a conventional distributor you can find, and for cruising around country roads the performance is fine (for me). Is certainly not perfect but for me is all part of the charm (like the ridiculous Oiler!).

I think to be safe I’ll keep my Pertronix kit in a zip Loc bag in my car just encase my backup points crump on me! Would be an easy enough roadside repair.

Hi TBM, sorry for being a bit cryptic. I just wondered if, with a bit more electrical energy going through the high tension leads, the insulation might be breaking down. Lift the bonnet with the engine running in the dark and sparks are visible as the leads short out.

ah get it! No, the leads aren't arcing - they're fairly new Magnecor.

Set the points gap properly yesterday, and reset the timing and she's now purring like a kitten
