That is a very old way of preserving books.
A while ago whilst taking some photos for a National Trust conservator, we came across a book dated early 1400s and it had been covered with a mediaeval parchment manuscript to protect the cover. What goes around comes around.

Don't worry - for the last five weeks my street has been full of kids bombing up and down on bikes and scooters - screaming, shouting, laughing and waterbombs (and a few eggs) being flung left, right and centre. A couple have walked past clutching a set of fishing rods.for a days adventure down the lakes.

As I've been tinkering, I've had a few come and chat and show a genuine interest in what I'm doing (and done a few quick bike repars for them).

I heard a teacher describe it as "compressed innocence" on the radio the other day. The simple pleasures now break at five and then the sochul medier just layers on the freak show. It felt like a good description.

I think the worst thing I am ever going to admit to was cementing a couple of garden gnomes to the corners of a house as suspect gargoyles whilst someone was away on holiday. The rest is staying out of print.

I don't think so, different times different generations. In 50 years time the kids of today will probably look back on their youth as the "good old days"

My uncle undertook some pretty adventurous DIY in the 60's and me & my brother were usually the willing child labour, on roofs, up chimneys, felling trees, crawling under floors pulling cables through, were learnt loads & it toughened you up

He'd recently moved into a new (old run down) house and discovered a massive wasps nest at the bottom of the garden, so we fashioned a copper pipe into a flamethrower, fitted it to the old garden hose, I was then sent down the garden to 'shove it up the blighters' whilst the other end was connected to the house 'town' gas, the rest is a bit of a blurr, apart from the huge boom and thousands of angry hot wasps, all three of us got a right bo11ocking off my auntie

But the next weekend we were back there helping melt lead in an open pot to cast some keel weights for uncles latest project, happy days
