Building a cart, or "barrer" as we knew them ("barrow" to non South Londoners!), out of an old scaffold board and pram wheels steered with a piece of rope down to the front axle. No brakes as we hurtled down the hill at our local waste ground heading straight for the stream at the bottom.

Making a hydroplane from balsa wood powered by a model aircraft engine and propeller then sending it off across Blackheath pond, much to the annoyance of the model yacht brigade. No control over it as it skimmed across to the other side where someone caught it (but not always!) and turned it round for the return run.

Flying control-line model aircraft in Greenwich Park (pre radio-control days). Just went round in a circle. Our record was 5 planes flying in the same circle before disaster struck and we trudged home to re-build them.

Kite flying on Blackheath and releasing hundreds of parachutes from height to float off across the heath (most never to be seen again).

'elf & safety, concern for the environment?? Nah!! BUT WE HAD FUN!

My weapon of choice around 83-84

I also had a racer which as everyone knows goes faster when you turn the drop handbars around the other way. I later fitted some ridiculous cowhorns to it. A real wheely monster.
