Hi all . When I bought my +8 I did an hpi on it and it flagged up the mileage has fluctuated because when they mot’d the car they wrote down what was displayed on the dash but the display started to read ( I’ll use round ish numbers ) say 2200.0 when it should have read 22000.0 so the previous owner kept his own log of every journey he made until the issue was finally sorted which took from 22k to 30+k . My question is can I get the errors put right on the certificates or just live with it as I imagine you’d need to be able to prove it

My car shows a mileage discrepancy warning on HPI. This is due to the MOT garage recording the mileage incorrectly on an MOT test. On one occasion the mileage recorded on failure was 9816 instead of 9186. Two days later on passing the mileage was recorded correctly at 9190. Because of the earlier, higher mileage recording it flags up a mileage warning.
This has happened twice in the cars life!
Although it is obvious to me what has happened I have been told by VOSA that an input cannot be changed after issue.
Frustrating but I guess I just have to live with it.
Regards
Simon

Did you try calling HPI ? We had a similar issue on a car my wife owned and HPI helpfully removed the flag on their system when we explained the circumstances (a dealer had input a rounded-up mileage I had provided into a valuation system - so my own fault really)

Edit: probably of more relevance to Simon than for OP where there is a more obvious and long-standing issue, but worth a try?

I haven’t, good idea though, at least it wouldn’t show there.
Thank you

It happens all the time. Usually looking at the recorded mileage sequence, especially if the car has an MOT after the erroneous entry, will usually resolve the issue for a potential buyer. Especially with proper service history. On my Porsche for example the recorded distance displayed can be switched from miles to kilometres and back again at the touch of a button. Imagine the confusion!
