Chaps, amongst all our varied and very interesting topics I am surprised that nobody has mentioned our brilliant cricket team ( that's England not TM ) They are going at full speed and yesterdays knock by Zak was totally breath taking. But congrats to him.

Records dropping everywhere, it's been a great two days. A shame there was no crowd at the ground to witness it but good that the highlights are on BBC.

It was great to watch. That partnership was a textbook one.
Crawley showing top talent and technique bolstered by Buttler playing a Test style innings.
I think both benefitted from and learned off each other. Crawley having an old head with him and Buttler seeing what he should be doing.
Crawley certainly showed his class and I hope he is managed well by England.
Pakistan have a good crop of bowlers, the youngsters performing well.

Astonishingly classy display by Zak Crawley. He looked relaxed, in control, elegant, and effortless. I loved the stat that the only players younger than him to have scored 250 in a test innings are Don Bradman, Garfield Sobers, Len Hutton and Graeme Smith. Fine company indeed.

As you say another excellent effort by Jos Buttler with the bat, proving that there is more to him than T20 style thrashing of the ball.

Finally the great Jimmy Anderson deserves a mention for picking up 3 wickets in the 13 overs before the close.

Enthralling stuff.

I agree about Anderson Giles, I hope he can get those final few ( 6 I think? ) wickets to reach the 6000 mile stone.

Oh, finger slipped there, I think 6000 wickets is a bit much even for someone as good as Anderson. I of course meant 600------ What a twit!!!

Our village ground is about 300 metres from our house and the absence of the whack of the ball and subsequent rejoicing has been a feature that has been missing this year whilst sitting out in the garden enjoying a little libation.

I suppose it's not such a good idea chaps running around handling each others balls this year.

Cricket is lost on me, I wasn’t brought up in Yorkshire and wasn’t posh enough to go to a school that played cricket, football and rugby in the winter athletics in the summer. Used the same kit for all three.
I can watch 20/20 because something is always happening, don’t get me wrong I have tried. I went to a county game, second or third day I think, the spectators were outnumbered by seagulls and pigeons most of whom were knitting or reading a paper (the people not the birds) some were asleep all of whom only stirred when someone actually watching clapped at which point they joined in, not knowing why they were clapping as they missed it
More like care in the community.
Please don’t get me going on how a game can last for 5 days and still be a draw let alone the fact that at any juncture the two captains can get together and go “shall we call it a draw and go home”
I suppose having watched Geoff Boycott bat when cricket was on BBC 2 didn’t help, batting for 2 days and scoring 37 runs.
It’s more stop start than American football and only the English could invent a game that in addition to all that, stops for morning tea, a nice lunch and afternoon snacks yet when our nations default weather conditions arrive, overcast or rain, they all leg it indoors.

Some stunnly good batting by Crawley and Butler yesterday. I've watched the highlights twice!

At one point yesterday England were 444 for 4

Today Pakistan just avoided being 44 for 4. They went to 45 for 4.
