No, this looks like the edible variety (Glis glis). I believe they are also now resident in the UK but haven't found their way down to the South-West yet.

I'm not overly happy with the rodent population at the moment as I have just had to throw away my Morgan indoor car cover which they chewed through in numerous places, though fortunately they have left the leather interior alone. Never had this problem when next door's cat was using the Morgan as temporary sleeping accommodation!

You might have to fatten it up a bit to get a decent pasty out of that.

The other day we had a Chipmunk in the house, quick little buggers and can cause quite a bit of damage. After much chasing and baiting in trying to humanely catch and release I had to result to the old Tom and Jerry trap. At least once during the summer months we have an errant Chipmunk and a Hummingbird in the house, in the Fall/Winter its Bears and Mountain Lions prowling the decks; the joys of living in the Mountains.

Correct In Italy they are called a Ghiro. Translates to dormouse for want of another translation.

We had a little bird come into the house the other day; some sort of a finch. The dog was going nuts. I could not get it to fly out the open veranda door but in the end, talking to it softly and moving my hands towards it from either side it almost jumped into my cupped hands. I was able to hold it in my closed hands and carry it outside. It did not seem at all panicked and when I opened my hands it sat there for a couple of seconds before flying off. We didn't think to get a photo until it was too late.

I also had a guest in my garden - last weekend he left us!

A couple of years back we witnessed this carnage in our back garden. We saw the bird again very recently perched on top of our garage roof.

Back to Morgan eating vermin, A friend asked who was eating the plastic nut covers at the top of the front suspension uprights on my M3W, I hadn't previously noticed but there is no denying the visible teeth-marks. And I don't keep anything (else) edible in my garage,
