Thanks for your replies. We got it down to the starter circuit, so, this morning we disconnected the main feed to see if the 2 amp drain disappeared. The answer is no really. But when we disconnected a loom of six brown wires from the starter the drain stopped.
So, the starter is sound, but something connected to it is draining the battery. The next thing is to find what these six brown wires are connected to.
Thanks again, Phil

Not sure about your car as I don't have a diagram but the brown wires off the starter (or solenoid) are usually the live feeds to various circuits on the car ..... can you put your ammeter between each brown wire and the starter in turn? .... if so, I suspect one of them will have the drain current and you can chase that back to the offending part of your electrical system

The sleuthing on this is worthy of Arthur Conan Doyle! Can't wait for the denouement and to see the offending component get its comeuppance!

A friend had this problem with his Morgan. The preowner installed a second horn (fanfare). It was connected directly to the battery without wireing and fuseing it properly. Has your car got any suspicios add ons? Check all the wires that are connected directly to the battery.

Thanks. There is nothing direct to the battery. It is definitely one of the brown leads from the starter solenoid. Just got to figure out which one and where it goes.
