Thank you - although both a little pricey and BGH is exchange. Honestly don't think I'm going to worry too much - 'percentage wise' I spend so little time in 1st I don't think a change would bother me. As long as it's goit enough oumph for me to pull away from a junction or off my drive that's all I'm bothered with. I plan to spend most of my time bimbling in 5th rather than 4th as I do currently.......

Thought I do a little experiment on my way to work this morning to see how much I use 1st gear. My journey is boring, and gave me something to stimulate my tiny mind Journey is 25 miles. Takes about 45 minutes. On my route I use 14 different roads (including the legendary 'Bell End'). There are 5 conventional junctions and 17 roundabouts (the last 5 miles are in MK). 2 Pelican and 2 Zebra Crossing. Roads are a mixure of 20/30/40/50/60/70mph limits. I'm using my 1.2l Corsa, so not some great torquey beast. 80bhp so comparable to the Morgan. Gear ratios in 1st (3.55) and 2nd (1.96) are very similar to the Type 9. Although not a 'hypermiler' per se, I do use some of the 'anticipation' techniques on my drives, to keep my consumption down and my drive 'stress free'. Total time spent in 1st gear.............. 3 seconds. Spent longer in Reverse to get off the drive

That's the one I wouldn't knick it - it's the only highlight of my extremely tedious journey

http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/78408/14From about 1/2 way down this page you can see a T9 5 speed going into a 70’s 4/4. The key challenges are getting a clutch your comfortable with, speedo readings and the chassis cross bar that goes under the trans tunnel is tight. On CVH cars and later - MMC moves the re-enforcing bar to be welded on below the chassis frame. On the 70’s 4 speeders the slightly smaller casing allowed this bar to be the centre part of the tow board steel angle at the back of the foot wells. There is a company I shared the link to some time ago who have re-engineered the Ford 4 speed into an alloy cased 5 speed unit with the same outer housing design and dimensions... so no need to shorten the prop shaft due to the elongated tail casing of the T9.

Not bad - just expecting our 3rd any time now. Also major house renovation underway.
Still get out in the Yellow and Grey speedster pretty regularly .... the blue & white beast has been in hibernation. But hope to get it out to play next year.
I’ll pass on your regards to mum & dad

Thought I'd update this - the process has started...... This week I ordered an recondiioned Type 9 from Burton Power and it's now sitting in Simons workshop. Went for the standard gear ratios based on my driving and Simon's recommendation. Bit pricey, but thought it less risky that getting a secondhand box and tryng to get it reconditioned - knowing me, I'd get one that needed addtional parts replacing and end up with a far higher bill! Just a few more bits and pieces to gather together and a suitable slot in Simons calendar and we're away

I’d defo recommend the Quaife canted gear lever and ditching the pen Ford unit with the anti-vibration joint 1/2 way down.
You’ll appreciate the difference once it’s done!
