Hello All !

Unfortunately my left Fuel-tank has a leak near the bracket that connects it to the frame.
I want to disconnect the tank now as I am only driving short distances before the start of winter
and then get the tank out with a qualified Morgan 3 wheeler dealer in Germany or Austria.
In the meantime I just want to completely disconnect the fueltank from the system as well as from any hoses connecting it to
The other tank on the other side.
So far I have only disconnected the obvious fuel lines on top of the tank.
Are there any on the bottom that connect both tanks for fuel leveling purposes.
If so, please advise how to go about, to disconnect the tank completely.
Many thanks from Zell am See.

This photo shows the link pipe between the two tanks. To get to it you will need to remove the two seat back panels and the lower aluminium bulkhead panel underneath.

Note that the bevel box is strangely absent from this photo!

Has anyone come up with a better way to mount these tanks, other than the straps?

Not really possible. You would have no vent in your right fuel tank, if you completely separate these two.

The only option would be: to remove the plastic plug in the filler neck and run it just with the aluminum gas cap, as that’s vented, or leave the barb fitting at the top of the filler neck open. you would loose the charcoal canister and you would smell gas in your garage.

You would also have to remove the rear wheel, undo shocks, bevel box NVH bracket, drop the swingarm, undo the tensioner straps for gas tanks, undo filler neck clamps, gas tank bolts and then try to remove the crossover hoses/pipe. At that point, it will be easier to remove the tank and re-weld it.

This must be a major safety concern, has anyone taken this up with MMC directly?

It might mean eliminating the tray in the boot and triangulation of a metal framework to the roll hoop mounts to suspend the rear of the tanks.

Mark Baldwin and Steve Morris form MMC often re-used their standard "nobody complains about it so it's not an issue" response to me and I doubt they care about their unchanged to this day fuel tank design flaw.

My guess is that it will take a charred corpse and heirs determined enough to sue MMC before any acknowledgement of this occurs.

Wasn't it a fatality and a cracked chassis that inspired MMC to respond to that issue that design flaw?

My fuel tank mount fix was one of the most expensive, in a long list of expensive fixes, due to MMC's engineering incompetence but I wasn't going to sell my M3W on before it was as good as I could make it, and MMC was almost no help at all.

I do believe that the new Italian owners of MMC are watching this topic, while knowing that acknowledging the issue and offering a remedy is cost prohibitive, until the grieving heirs and their Barristers come knocking...

Well said 3Gs .

The guy that comes up with a better support system for the M3W fuel tanks will sell them like lemonade on a hot day.
