Could anyone tell me the oil quantities for the gearbox and final drive on a 3.9 Plus 8 please?
Or possibly where to find out?
Any tips would be handy 😁
Regards, Phil

Thank you. I could see the type of lubricants, but not the quantities. I see it now.

Phil
I think that the figures given for the gearbox and diff capacities are correct but don't take everything here with 100% confidence . I am afraid there are numerous errors.
Look at the cooling capacity : it is given as 24 pints , or 42 litres !! The pints figure is correct , the litres is not
The fuel tank capacity is given as 12.5 gallons , when it is normally a 10 gallon tank (the original was 12.5 , then they had to narrow it due to the high pressure fuel pump sitting on the boards next to the tank , so it became 10 gallons , then the fuel pump moved into the tank , so they could have changed back to 12.5 , but didn't for the 14CUX Hotwire cars . When the GEMS cars came in the carbon canister was mounted next to the tank so again they did not have the width for the larger capacity. This is what makes working on our cars a tad challenging at times!

Thanks for the replies.
The local parts shop didn't recognise any of the oil types on my list. At least they didn't have the makes I was asking for.
Can anyone tell me what the up to date recommended oils for the +8 (3.9) gearbox and final drive are please?
Many thanks
Phil

Many thanks once again. I am confident I have the R380 gearbox. The drain and fill plugs are on the right hand side and reverse is back from 5th gear. (The LT77 drain is at the bottom and reverse is top left) I can't see a serial number on the panel but I'll have another look tomorrow.
The problem is (it is a 1997 car) the access panel is on the left. The oil is also red.
Nothing seems to be straight forward, but I am battling on.
I had a chat with Matty at Lifes this morning on the phone and he said the oil in an R380 would probably be gold or clear, but I read that early versions still had ATF, which is red.
I haven't got to a question yet, but I suppose I am still looking for a recommendation for oil. Castrol Syntrans seems to be recommended in GoMog.
Also, how the hell do you change it if the access panel is on the wrong side???
Rant over :-)
Thanks, Phil

One question has just occurred to me as probably crucial. If my gearbox has ATF, which it has, (red) does it have to stay as ATF, or can it be replaced with a better option? Thank you

Probably OK to change to the Castrol product which is superior. Ask Lifes. If no access point needs to be done from underneath.

If you don’t have an access hole on your car for the refill plug then make one yourself! I think someone ( probably DaveW) has detailed doing such a job. Whatever you do, check you can use the refill hole BEFORE draining! It may be possible to refill from below if you can raise the car enough by using a tube from the refill bottle. More fiddly but do-able. I think most servicing garages tend to do it that way. To save moving the leather on the transmission tunnel ( not difficult but an extra faff).
