Just having a little giggle i thought i would share some of my Antiques or rather where they cam from and when.

Now at the age of 57 this was this little Volt Meter was given to me in an unusual way, at 14 yrs of age i was constantly
looking for weekend & after school hours work, although i helped out in the Family Garage in school holidays, my Father
never would work weekends, so my pocket money been limited to 10p a week i was constantly looking for more ways to
earn a buck, cleaning cars, paper round and milk round, i also ventured into a bit of Gardening (Grass Cutting).

One day i knocked on a old Ladies door and proposed i cut her grass, after the job was complete, i was initially gutted
when she came to the Door and said she had no money to pay me, but handed me the little box as shown with the sentence
"this was my husbands and i want you to have it".

having worked in the Garage and seeing what was inside the box i expressed my gratitude and ran home with it, further discussions
with my old man revealed exactly what it was, i treasured it for the rest of time but lost it in a house move in @1993.

In August this year my sister in law passed away, it was left to my Son and Ex to clean out my S.I.L house and to my great delight my Son
passed it back to me, worth very little in monitory terms but invaluable in historical terms to me.



And this my first phone log, probably got it free in a lucky bag, but at 22 yrs old i started my first Garage and this was my life line
to both customers and Suppliers, ...... a paper iphone i suppose.

I don't really have 'antiques' per se, but in the photo are some of my most treasured possessions - the box was built by my maternal Grandad (he of Morgan fame), on the right is my Dad's RAF GSM (Cyprus), in the Centre are my Paternal Grandad's WW1 Service Medals (he was in the MGC and served until 1922). On the left, a copy of my Dad's cousins DFC (Lancaster Tail Gunner) and a 1943 sixpence as a homage to this story: Bent Sixpence

Not worth much money, but they are the first things I'd rescue in a house fire.

I used to buy soul packs from Soul Bowl Records of Kings Lynn in the early seventies: £6 for 100 American 45s. Included in one was this beauty from sought-after Cleveland label Saru which became big on the Northern Soul scene. John Manship auctioned a copy last year for £2000.

Many years ago we made one of our Morgan trips to Germany, and visited the Zeppelin Museum at Friedrichshafen. In one of the display cabinets I recognised an altitude recorder that would be strung up in the 'balloon' and using a battery, heated tip, and a sort of thermal paper, would record the altitude during the flight.

I couldn't see who manufactured the recorder, but I have a similar recorder, made by Short and Mason who were based in Walthamstow until the late 50's

When were we clearing out my mother's house we came across this, which I'd never seen before. It's an early hand held calculator with a fascinating history my father must have used during his career in engineering. This one is an early Type I version manufactured in 1951 (so it's older than me!) and is in pristine condition (unlike me!)

That Voltmeter is a cool little thing.

The oldest thing in my house is the tapestry here. I dont know anything about it sadly. Would love to find out its age ( and value ! ) The Foo dogs were purchased by my mum in the mid 70s, I remember being with her when she got them. They are not worth anything but great sentimental value .

You probably know, they are worth a few bob !!

EDIT : I know a collector who is very knowledgeable on Curta calculators if you want further info .

Thanks Bonesie - I'd be very interested in further info. This one has an early (4 digit) serial number, and given its' condition, is probably a very rare find. I have the instruction booklet but never mastered using it. I don't think the box is original though, but its such a good fit it could well be original.

It looks maybe 16th Century given the limited colour range (most didn't have access to a broad colour palette at that time). But you'd have to take it to an expert to age as they would look at the weave etc. Have you had it out of the frame? Many were signed... although if it's ancient it could be fragile.
