While under my M3W the other day I noticed the adjustment mechanism on the parking brake cable (my parking brake is lever that amuses, but does nothing). Of course the adjuster is in a place that tempts you with seeing it, but totally inaccessible and therefore useless.
I am wondering if it might be accessible by removing the center piece where the lever and shift knob are located?

Rodger,
On my car the adjuster (a cylindrical device) is located in the driveshaft tunnel area about 8-10 inches behind the brake lever and is accessible from underneath. Though it is easier to adjust with the driveshaft cover removed.
Once properly adjusted the handbrake works pretty well, in my experience.

My handbrake works well too.
2019 M3W Sold and is now in Las Vegas enjoying the showgirls :-)

Yes I can see it in the tunnel, but am unable to get at it to adjust. I will try taking off the center piece this weekend..... in between laying pavers for a back deck.

I assume you know its a fly off handbrake, to set pull back on lever & press the button. To release pull on lever & let go. Do you say it does nothing because it does not hold the car when set? I initially did not like the fly off action but soon got used to it. When at traffic lights I tend to just pull back on the lever but not press the button. As an Engineer it annoys me when people set the hand brake by just pulling back in the lever & not holding the button in, this wears the ratchet.

I do realize how it works. It does nothing as it does not engage the brake enough to stop the car from rolling away (I do always park in gear)

OK on my 1988 4/4 the Fly Off does not hold for the majority of the time and would appear the Ratchet is worn or is there a Spring which is weak?
Without a major strip down of the Tunnel is there enough access through the side hole and is there a fix that can be done?
Taking it in for a Waxoil next week and when on the Ramp what should I be looking for from underneath?
Looking at a picture of the assy with the Tunnel removed it looks like the Pawl should simply lift out from the Ratchet by taking off the Knob, ....correct?
Which wears
first the Ratchet or Pawl, is there a service kit from Morgan?
