Always hankered after a TV175 but settled for a little LI 150. I did put a fuel injector on it and a modified silencer but it couldn't catch the TVs and GTs. I never gave it another thought after I sold it in 1968 but I saw a restored and modified GT200 at the 218 NEC Classic Car Show just before visiting the Morgan stand and I wondered about a project!

Perhaps a Mellotron would be more suitable for an electronic bike!

Not so sure on that, having had Harleys for over 30 years, some with standard pipes and some with loud open pipes, I found that it makes no difference whatsoever, they either see you or simply don't see you on a motorbike. All loud pipes on motorbikes ( in my experience) either riding or following them just make you go slightly deaf over time and can leave your ears ringing for days. I know from experience after a long run. following a loud pipes Harley group all day was enough> It lead me to visit A&E to see an ear specialist after the ringing not stopping after a day , only to be told nothing they can do ,it will go away of its own accord or simply wont go away and you are stuck with it was a salutary enough lesson for me . Worn ear plugs ever since when riding my bikes.

Hence why I don't enjoy the sports exhaust on my 4/4 70th Anniversary after the first few minutes, just an uncomfortable drone on a long journey. Might be less of a problem if the exhaust exited on the left side rather than the drivers side, I'm considering getting my biker ear plugs out again especially with the roof up.

Love the sound but hate the noise after a while.

Personally, if I hear a bike exhaust, straight away I'm looking for it in my mirrors. If possible I'll move over to the left to allow them to pass me easier.

If there's only 1 in every 100 that does that, it still increases my chances of survival.

I'm sure I have some some hearing loss from a similar time biking as you but nothing that has a noticeable effect (yet). I tried earplugs but didn't like how they made me feel 'distanced' from my surroundings. I don't wear a full face for the same reason.

My Mrs always tells me to stop shouting when I come in from a ride

I had a Laverda triple with copies of the Slater pipes. Went like a rocket but the open pipes left me with ringing ears. I returned them to the manufacturer and got him to put baffles in them. I lost a little performance but it made the bike much more enjoyable on a trip.

My Le Mans MkIII had open Lanfranconis. I had to change them the noise was so loud.

Sacrilege. Who would dare take lafranconis on a Lemans. Well now we know.

Laverdas were such beautiful bikes. My mate Lee had two Jotas - one with the 180° crank, t'other with the 120° one. They both sounded amazing. Mind you, so did the 2 cylinder Montjuic; I remember years ago seeing an ad for a Montjuic for sale, with the tag line "Amaze your friends, annoy your neighbours."

I was fortunate on that occasion the ringing stopped after about 3 days but been very cautious ever since......I always wear open face helmets as you say you experience so much more. I think the Harley pipes because they exit so close to the pillion, I believe my Mrs has suffered a little bit of deafness as a result of the loud pipes or as I strongly suspect from time to time its most likely more a case of 'selective' deafness on certain subjects like spending money on bikes and cars.......mind you you could have knocked me over with a feather today when she said I needed to make a list of things to get for the Morgan......so on the very top of the list in bold Capitals...MORGAN AEROMAX...one can but try.

I think everyone should learn to ride a bike, it teaches you true roadcraft and how to read the road conditions and defensive riding.......that,s why as biker's we may be more aware and anticipate bikes more than non bikers......mind you some bikers these days make it very hard work by hiding in blinds spots etc.
