Was going to suggest checking the rear brakes first. Is this after parking up / using the handbrake Robbie? If so, check the linkages are not sticking...

Folks, As you know I have had a “Shudder” when starting off which was diagnosed as the pads developing a “rim” as they are slightly too big for the disks. Well – I decided to remove the pads and chamfer the edges to remove the “rim”. There are springs which retain the pins holding in the pads as well as stopping the pads rattling which need to be depressed so as to enable the pins to be removed. Well I pushed the first one with my finger and – ping – it broke in two!!! They are paper thin and had rusted to the point that it broke on a simple hand push. See photo attached
If this happened when driving, the pin would vibrate out and potentially jam the wheel. My car is just 2 years old and in Ireland we don’t have a lot of salt on the roads. You have been warned – check yours and replace the springs if in any doubt – they are a land rover part no 606688 and cost about 50p
Why such a shoddy part is used is beyond me – I have looked at similar springs for Japanese cars and they are all at least 4 times as thick. Seems Caparo and Morgan are content with penny pinching – strange when safety is involved.
Having changed all mine I will keep a close eye on them in the future
Mind you having chamfered off the "rims" of the pads all shudder has disappeared!!
John, The Pad is marginally too big for the disk so you get a "Rim" at the edge which then sticks to the disk when the wole thing is hot. Chamfering off the "edge" seems to solve the problem. Did for me anyway!!!
