I definitely wished I hadn't traded that in many years ago!

Yes the Reid is rising in desirability as it is rare compared to the Leica and probably every bit as good, Naval issue would be a very rare item.

Nice cameras Kevin. Thanks for posting, I'd never heard of the Contarex (exposing my ignorance), is it heavy and hard to use or a delight?

That is a fine collection of cameras Kevin, and very nicely displayed too. They are fine examples of mechanical engineering from a time gone by when engineering was valued. Modern cameras are fantastic requiring far less training and skill to grab a first class pic, I have even seen far superior pics to any I have managed to capture on my circa 25kg of kit, captured and processed on a cell phone... Yup the world moves on indeed.

Thanks for sharing. thumbs

Great camera collection. Pleased to see you still use them, even if not as regularly as in the past. thumbs

My great Grandfather on my father's side was a Coachbuilder, and ran a company in West London up until the 50's rivalling some of the great coachbuilders in the area

I'm the proud custodian of his remaining blueprints and drawings, along with huge amounts of photos from his and my grandparent's lives

Love the drawings - and the cars of course, particularly the Austro Daimler. What a great family collection to have.

Thanks chaps
He was the carpenter crafting the ash frames
I’ve got all of his woodworking tools as well as his indenture certificate from his apprenticeship
He was called up in WW1 and mustard gassed in the trenches....

I've sailed on a Doxford engined ship, quite an experience, but your mind must be playing tricks, the big ones never revved at 600, more like 110 rpm.

Here's one (or rather two) in action. Go straight to 6.15 mins to see the top pistons showing their skirts and the rubber hose arrangement for water cooling.
