I have run a small windows computer hooked to the ECU permenantly for the last 40,000 miles. I have just popped out and had a look at the logged data and its showing a peak oil temp of 283F which was sustained for 1657 seconds. Its usually peaks around 238F which from what i read is withing the oil spec. I have no oil cooler and run a stage 1 factory exhaust. Im pretty sure this peak was reached with this exhaust and not the standard factory as I did it going up in a long mountain pass in Switzerland stuck in heavy traffic doing about 15MPH so it didnt run the fan. If you need anyting esle jsut let me know, engine is now showing 1,200 run hours with 4,900 starts That is an interesting Temperature number. Do you know where it is being taken from in the engine? I took oil temps in the return oil line to the tank, near the tank, and they were a lot hotter. I would hate to guess what they were inside crankcase. It was the reason I put an oil cooler in the system since before I too was getting those high temps at the tank.

The engine temperature sensor is located on the left hand (aka forward) cylinder head.

That was what I though, and that is head temperature on the outside of the head and not in an oil galley.

In addition to removing said cat's and baffles, consider Emil's oil cooler kit. Have to say that the combo has made my 3W a happy camper throughout the RPM range and to keep the temp in check.

In AZ its a no brainer...will be installing Emil's oil/bevel box cooler when temps are below 100F and I can ride again.

In addition to his oil cooler, he installed his auxiliary fan switch on my 3W to preempt this exact problem. Whereas the stock fan's software only kicks in below 10-mph and turns off with the ignition switch, his invention allows manual override of either scenario using a toggle switch for a 1-min/45-second run time. Its' amazing how much heat comes off those heads after the ignition is turned off.
