The inside of the frame,,, if all that waxy goop that seems to be everywhere did not find its way inside the frame then how could I get in there? I would hope the frame was dipped to seal it but I suspect it was sprayed since the car was built in an antique shed that was probably a converted dairy barn a hundred plus years ago. I try to not drive through rivers and creeks or rain storms and so far have succeeded. I sold my drysuit so I don’t go kayaking anymore 😊
ABT makes (or did make) the chassis for the M3W.. http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthread...ple-of-things-to-look-out-for#Post662870OK, but they are not dipped from what I see with that chassis coating and overspray. Maybe it is touched up by Morgan and they got sloppy? But it sure is not dipped if it rusts from the inside out. It is a pretty nice little chassis but some of the welds not all that great. The metal is very hard and I have no clue as to its spec as far as numbers on the type of metal, like 4140.

Have had a borescope inside two chassis. They either want to rust from the inside out or they are painted brown inside! I've done all the chassis tubes with rust proofing wax. It's not a big or hard job to do, just a bit of a pain and a bit messy as jets of wax shoot out of lots of small holes you hadn't noticed.

How did you do that Calum? Go to ever little hole in the frame and spray something into the hole? Did you do it with the body off the frame? What sort of tool/sprayer did you use?

I got a large aerosol can of Dynax s50 which comes with a long thin plastic tube with the spray vents round the end. Just thread it in through the various holes in the tubes and spray as you draw it back out. Best to stop spraying just before the tube comes right out otherwise it gets even messier than it needs to be. I'm sure there are many equivalent waxes about, all with similar marketing claims. Have done it body on and body off. Easier body off but not that great a problem either way. You might want a good supply of clean rags, brake cleaner, gloves and old clothes!

So, I hope they won't rust from the inside. See minute 5:10 of this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCGlCVKksBo

We are not privileged enough to see it.

It is reassuring to know they re dipped but if Calum and his borescope said brown interior do you think the dip is high tech enough to be the pre rusting technique to preserve steel?

Thanks for the link Javier. Bit cheesy at times but an interesting watch particularly the chassis and body being made. Definitely reassuring to see the chassis being dipped!
