Yesterday I sepnd the whole evening / night putting the Dynamat insulation all over the cockpit. To do so I had to remove the seats, so I removed the boot tray.

Cleaning the back wheel area, I checked all bolts, nuts, screws to make sure thay0re not loose. And I had a big surprise with the fuel filter.

It's completely loose, but attached to its support. Let me explain it better: the fuel filter, as per below image, is fixed by a round bracket. And this round bracket is fixed via a Ω-shaped steel piece to the plate at the back of the seats.

Is this normal? I don't think so!

In a car with so much vibrations and where we all try to reduce the rattles, this mounting of my fuel filter looks like a bad joke...

No that is not normal, it looks as though the spot welds on the bracket have failed.

This is exactly my thought. But as you see, if the spot welds have failed, they failed at the factory while mounting it, and the clown who saw it thought it will be Ok to mount it this way. I'm in real anger right now This is not a design failure, but laziness and true irresponsibility from the guy who mounted that!

Welcome to Morgan, it is frustrating to see things like this. Mine was solid. I bet you have a lot of extra noises coming from the boot area😱.

Get your dealer to send you a new bracket.

If you wanted to go a step further add the fuel system upgrade from Morgan ustom.net. It eliminates that filter completely and adds a proper filter.

I don't think you can say for sure that it hadn't failed in service and was not OK when fitted. It looks like there would be room to drill a couple of holes and bolt the 2 parts together. I know you shouldn't have to but for me would be easier and quicker than getting involved with the dealer.

As per the drawings and the pictures that I've received, it looks like the two pieces are welded back-to-back, and not at the inner face of the contact. Like in this drawing



If this is how it's made, if the weld spots fail the filter would directly fall (not good at all. I prefer it hangs loose from the support than falling in front of the mudguard hanging just by the pressurized petrol pipes).

So, the only way that my filter ended up hanging like this, is because it was mounted like this, not broken. I might be wrong and it's welded the other way round, but right now all indicates the opposite.

As you say, it's very simple to unscrew, drill and secure with nice bolt and nut. But My M3W is still under warranty and I have to take it to the dealer to solve other issues such as the Bevel Box leak. I prefer them to deal with the problem.

BUT: if once it's repaired I see that the new support is welded as I suppose it is, I may then drill and reinforce with a bolt / nut so if the weld spots fail again it stays fixed by the bolt and nut.

Javier - I just checked my fuel filter mount, which is happily rock solid, and on mine at least the two pieces are "looped" together, so that they will fail-safe in the same way that yours has. It is a tricky area to photograph in, but here's what it looks like as best as I could capture it.

So while this is another case of poor welding (I had a weld fail on the mount for the ignition system in the first few weeks of ownership), it is possible that it left the factory intact.
