It pained me having to have a mortgage of £11,500 and had it paid back early at 50.
The only borrowing in my life. +1 paid ours off at 50.

It pained me having to have a mortgage of £11,500 and had it paid back early at 50.
The only borrowing in my life. +1 paid ours off at 50. I managed to pay mine off at 47, courtesy of a generous redundancy payout.

I was told many years ago "if you die in debt you made a profit"  That said, I am currently breaking even

The only borrowing in my life. +1 paid ours off at 50. I managed to pay mine off at 47, courtesy of a generous redundancy payout. The earlier the better, with 3 youngsters going through University concurrently it helped a lot especially as two of them were four year jobs.

Got about 11 years left on mine - will probably retire once it's paid off (I'll be 62, if teaching hasn't killed me by then).

The feeling that comes with the last mortgage payment is unbeatable. Our goal when we married was to be mortgage free and retired at 56. Made mortgage freedom at 58 and retirement at 60.

My Mrs is 15 years younger than me, so she'll probably be working for another 20yrs once I'm retired so can keep me in the manner to which I'm accustomed Thankfully we have no kids to drain our bank accounts.....
