Have stripped down door to replace moth eaten ally. The top door rail (the one yours your elbow on) is a bit rotten at the back. I have some ash from another rebuild. Does any one know of a pattern to make one up, or an idiots guide. I can see there are some subtle curves involved. Where can I buy one after I've messed up!

Is your top rail too rotten to use as a template .... or to take cardboard templates off of before removal??

What year/model is your car?
I've a template for a 1971 4/4 and a 1969 4/4, can't remember what side they are
Alternatively, give Vic Champness at Black Phey a ring.

It's a 1883 +8. Not very rotten. I was trying to get my head around templating the minor inner and outer curves from the original by drawing direct onto the new ash. Then realised that card can be tacked onto the major horizontal curved bit and drawn without parallax using the concave side or the pattern swivelling on the convex side. so thanks for all the advice. Any one got ideas about the galvanic corrosion where the water collects the bottom between ally and the steel 'formers'. Can I replace the steel with ally and then crimp the door skin over so it is all/ally together. i.e. will ally take the forces involved with turning the skin over without distorting.
