I have a December 1973 (constructed, first registered January 1974) +8, which I bought Easter 1975. I am near completing a 3-year restoration, in the course of which I have replaced the fuse box due to corrosion of the original. Amazingly, I have been able to buy a fuse box that is exactly the same as the original - Lucas 7FJ, which takes 4 glass fuses. There is also an in-line fuse in the brown wire which exclusively feeds the hazard lights.

Can anyone please tell me what value the four fuses in the fuse box should be? I can obviously guess, or put 3/16" bolt in place of the fuses (!!), but I'd rather put in the correct factory values, if possible.

Many thanks in anticipation of someone knowing the answer...

Francis

Thanks - but originality is the problem I have! I know the hazard in-line fuse is original, as I didn't even know it existed until a few weeks ago. One of the 4 is 17 amp and looks original, but the others do not and are different values. Though I have no recollection of doing so, at least one is certainly not original... Many years ago, I appear to have drilled out the endcaps and soldered in a new internal fuse wire!

If that fuse box is fed from the other side of the car, at the starter relay/solenoid, do put a fuse or circuit breaker in line just after the relay.
I did this on my 4/4 after finding that feed is unprotected.

If nothing else, it should improve the flavour of the cheese, Richard!

What amp fuse do you use in that Graham?

Good question Phil. It actually contains a flat blade fuse, somewhere in the region of 30A if I remember correctly. It was 8 or 9 years ago that I did that mod after a bit of an issue with wiring.
Had to replace the high current feed and a number of wires behind the dash.
