Crank pinion seal. The tensioner above it does not penetrate through the camchest cover. Do you think that seal can be changed without pulling the entire plate and cams etc?? I have seen those seal pullers that slide next to the shaft and hook into the seal. There are other techniques as well. I am wondering if that pulley can be pulled without having to have something on the backside to hold it while it is loosened.

I am wondering if this seal is bad because the engine has sat for so long without running? It appears when the engine heats up for awhile it will leak. Running it for a few minutes doesn't produce a leak. Running it at speed for an hour, produces a small puddle. Not really bad but aggravating. It shouldn't be having any leaks.

My 2013 car intermittently drips from the cam belt cover only a few drops, then it will fix itself for a while so I never pursued a seal change. Mine did not originally have the cover spacers, I just removed the gasket & added a washer to each stud bolt to leave the gap.

The crank pinion sprocket certainly comes off without anything holding it behind, it has to come off to take the cam plate off. If you have a look at these instructions https://www.sscycle.com/docs/defaul...82_easystartxwedge_20081202.pdf?sfvrsn=4 they detail the cam replacement but all the information you require is there. If you can remove the seal in situ then I would say you could fit one as well. I have only replaced the seal when doing the cam change with the plate off. The full engine manual is available for free on the MTWC website.

That was my first thought, I must have left the handbrake on but it was off, Then I thought I might have rode the clutch at little so I drove home and by the time i got home the smell was gone.
I think i found the source of the smell, my rear tire touches the belt when I am turning backing up. I had my wife slowly back up with the rear wheel cover off and the belt does touch the rear wheel.

So it is riding off the inside of the rear sprocket?
