When I took my Morgan apart the gearbox tunnel was attached ontop of the floorboards. Now during reassembly I wonder if this is correct. Attaching it from above certainly has a benefit if the engine or gearbox need to come out again. Ir maybe because the propshaft greasepoint needs to be reached.
However the gap to the crossmember doesn't look good if attached from above
..
Do you know what the correct way would be?

All three of mine were attached above the floorboards. Yes its gappy but there's only a narrow slot underneath behind the crossmember.

The gaps can easily be fixed, using neoprene or even aluminium plates.

Agreed all mine have been fixed above. If not you would need to remove the pedal box & the floor boards to get at it.

Yes mine is above too. If I recall correctly it was sealed down with mastic to stop water ingress. Due to a design fault (in my opinion) the bloody thing was impossible to remove entirely with the lower plastic air box in place due the the flanges sticking up at the bulkhead end. If the gearbox cover had been fitted over flanges turned out from the bulkhead instead it would have slipped straight out making maintenance of parts underneath much easier.
