Where is the excess heat going?
What is the temperature after cooling? Thermostat conrolled
Do you have louvers?

I do have louvers. A lot of air does come up around the transmission. And the bonnet is aluminum which is a great conductor as well.
The fan turns off ~199-200. The oil slowly creeps up to ~209 and then it kicks back on and the temp slowly drops. I could put a lower temp fan switch, but that is the temps most car radiators operate within

Rodger, are the louvers near the front or rear of the bonnet? I have always suspected that if air could get out of from under the bonnet it would not have such a mess in the cockpit. Any thoughts on that?

The one thing about these big v twins, is that they run hot. Trying to cool them has always been an issue as oil coolers help they are dead in the water when there is no air flowing across them. Sure, it still helps to have them but your system is acting like a radiator system in a car. I wonder for us non-louvered guys, if it would be as effective? It certainly couldn't hurt. I would really be interested in your set up.

That was why I put on Morgan Customs oil cooler up front. Functions great and keep the temps down, it just mucks up the visual of the front. But that said, I would rather have a healthy engine than just a pretty one.

That is what has me intrigued No. If you are driving in constant slow backed up traffic that does not allow you to get over 20mph then an airflow cooler such as Morgan Customs will not make a huge difference. However, in my case I drive on fairly open roads and the cooler makes the temperature stay at around 185 - 195, dependent on the steepness of the mountain pass, even when stopped at traffic lights.

I have digital Autometer gauges on the engine and bb oil and my engine never goes over 183f.

I have digital Autometer gauges on the engine and bb oil and my engine never goes over 183f. I have owned a lot of v twins with oil coolers and when you get stuck in traffic they get hot. Now they have the back cylinder cut off to help with the heat. Where I live the temperatures will get in triple digits and traffic can be stop and go. Out on the road I never had trouble with overheating. Yes they would get hot, 235 degrees in the summer but it was normal for these engines. I like the idea of fans on the oil cooler more than the fan blowing on the cylinders
