Thanks

Unfortunately not, it was already done by the original owner. I seemed to recall that it was done by West Tuning near Thruxton. www.west-tuning.com

Indeed the car belonged to Graham Bryant a Morgan racer in the 80's & 90's. His son is also a great current racer who now has moved onto serious racing as a career. Graham had the car but TBH did not get on with it in comparison to some of his other cars, as a result he spent a lot of time trying to get the car to feel how he wanted it, suspension and geo tweaks followed, as did the Librands Exhaust and Remap. In the end he moved the car on through lack of use. I picked the car up following another owner in between.

I generally overhauled the car to ensure everything worked perfectly, swapped out the headlight bulbs for some hi-vis but not full HID. Also had all the brightwork electro-foretticly polished. I also replaced the old air-box for a cone-filter.

All the screws and fittings were replaced with Stainless Steel and the Headlight pods were replaced and the brackets modified so the would not pull the lenses off in the future.

I've had 2 Mk1 Aero's and the second drove the best by far.

Hi Phil,

Just out of interest, did you get your mapping sorted in the end?

As others have said, there should be no flat spots whatsoever on a standard map. I'm also contemplating getting a remap but would be interested to hear how your car is performing now.

Mike,

I honestly wouldn't bother.

The NA BMW engines don't have much to offer from a remap. Unless you are able to have someone tune it, whilst the car is at a rolling road, I'd be very cautious when reading bhp gains from remaps.

As a start, why not get your car on a rolling road and see what power it is producing. I'm not sure where you are based but if you are in the South, I can recommend someone who has experience with Aeros.

Getting real gains from an NA BMW V8 isn't simply about a remap, it starts a slippery slope of many different component changes AND almost all are expensive.

If your car hasn't had it done, one modification that isn't expensive and many believe adds power and smoother power delivery is to improve the airflow into the airbox. This is done by drilling it and adding a more efficient air filter (K&N, BMP, etc). The factory did mine, so I cannot tell you what the best process is but I can ask the question if no one has done it themselves and is able to detail the process.

Or.. remove the airbox completely and attach a large IGT cone filter directly onto the induction pipe in it's place... sorted.

Simon, Cerealsurfer, advice taken! The power delivery at the moment is silky smooth and I wouldn't want to loose that. I'm also not convinced that a remap will deliver anything useful.

ITG filtre will be fitted soon though,,

Culminator

I'll be very interested to hear what you think of the ITG filter when installed. I have hesitated so far to fit it on my car.

Cheers

Hi Philip,

I had one fitted on my Series I and it really made a difference as it was much keener to rev. Since then I've just got the Works to alter the internals of the standard air filter, as mentioned by Simon, and that seems to have the same effect, making the breathing of the engine much better particularly at high revs. flag

Cheers
Brian

I had the ITG on my S2, felt a little bit more eager, but mostly made a better sound afterwards smile
