Pip Hare has some interesting technology on board including some wearable technology from Aparato to help her judge whether she is mentally in a good place to make decisions

BBC News - Vendée Globe: Tech to spot sailor’s mood in tough race

You might wonder what a medical research company has to do with sailing, it is owned by elin haf davies

Pandy might well have sailed against her husband Chris Frost in Nautor Swan regattas in his 36 Finola.
Chris has also completed 13 Fastnets and sailed the last round britain with Elin and Pip

I have indeed.

Beautiful boat, and really well sailed. They won the Classic S&S class overall in the 2014 Swan cup in Sardinia. Some of the boats in the class had real rock stars on board; Americas cup helmsmen & the like.

TBH the 36 is my favourite Swan. Original and best.

A truly amazing feat of seamanship and courage by Goss. He beat to windward in huge seas and high wind in the South Indian Ocean for two days, and managed to locate and rescue Rafael Dinelli (with a little help from the Real Australian Air Force).

He is rightly viewed as a hero in France, and was awarded the Legion d'Honneur by President Chirac.

Pete Goss's book "Close to the Wind" is a great read. Must have left my copy on board when I sold the yacht though frown

Although I want Alex Thomson to win, I've been thrilled by the performance of 61 year old French sailing legend Jean Le Cam, with his low budget entry in his 13 year old non-foiling boat.

Nearly a week in and he and Thomson are battling it out for the lead, swapping first place with great regularity.

Another good channel to watch for race updates is Conrad Humphreys on YouTube. His insights are informative and interesting.

How do they know who's in the lead? Furthest great circle distance from the start? Furthest distance travelled? Longitude?

What a dramatic reversal of roles! Jean Le Cam goes to the rescue of PRB sailor.

Vendee Globe Drama: Le Cam Alters Course To Rescue Kevin Escoffier (PRB) After Distress Beacon Activated

Last time it was Le Cam who was rescued by PRB.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2009/jan/07/vendee-globe-le-cam-rescue

We are sitting here waiting for news that Le Cam has been able to pick up Escoffier from his liferaft. Not an easy operation in strong winds and high seas.
