I have a 1986 Morgan Plus 4, LHD and would like to replace the column stalk switch. I presume, but would appreciate confirmation that it is necessary first to remove the steering wheel, then the ugly black plastic cowl. Correct? Is there a YouTube video that shows the process?

There's a few bits that have to be undone to get to the column switches, but it's not a difficult process. Here are the steps I use with my 1986 4/4:
1. Remove steering wheel 2. Remove speedo (makes access easier) 3. Undo screws securing shroud. I have a HoE stainless steel shroud which is screwed to the rear of the dash, I think the original plastic shrouds are fixed in the same way. 4. Undo the two bolts holding the steering column to the scuttle. This allows the steering column to be lowered enough to get the shroud off the switches. 5. Undo the screws holding the switches to the steering column, disconnect the electrics, and remove.
If like me you are replacing the steering column switch due to burnt-out dipswitch contacts, then make sure you fit a couple of relays for the headlamps to prevent a recurrence.

Yes the plastic shroud is screwed to the back of the dash. The stalk also need bending to fit. GoMog stalk
