In answer to everyone who can't understand the need to change the OEM headlights, My car is block black and we all know how small and low Morgans are in motorway traffic. This means I want to be as visible to the foreign LHD trucks as possible, especially at night, and if that means better headlights (led) then I will take the compromise on looks.
I do quite a bit of night time motorway driving was I live next to the M1.

To be honest, if this gives you the sense of security to drive at night, then all well and good, but I don't think there is any actual benefit in motorway driving. At night, regular headlights can be seen for miles either from behind you or in front. (they reckon on a normal night, 1000LM car lights are visible for over 100km). Having brighter lights won't make it any more likely for you to be seen.

They will improve your visibility on an unlit road, but then you have the added danger of dazzling the sh1t out of oncoming traffic and put yourself at risk of a driver being blinded and ploughing straight into you.

Hi, have just bought a Xenon HID H4 conversion kit to upgrade the original lights on my 2006 Roadster. I am able to do this legally an physically ?

Any help or guidance would be appreciated

Ok then why are so many conversion kits sold or am being naive. I’m guessing then that it would fail an mot if fitted ?

However if your MOT doesn't spot your HID conversion, you may get away with it.

They are because like other things it is not illegal to own just to use, tinted front windows for instance.

I have LED 7" Units and the car has passed 2 MOTs without comment.
The light output is modern, not vintage, as I found out on Wednesday last.
As far as I know LED lights require neither self levelling not headlamp washers....certainly neither Mercedes has self levelling nor headlamp washer.

The 7" Units are very similar to the ones used by MMC in the CX chassis cars, they have a "side light" strip across the front, not a DLR one.

And not just yours Peter. All the current CX production use dedicated LED headlamps, seemingly homologated with neither self cleaning nor levelling.

Regarding need for good lighting on motorways or other dual carriageways, I find a good pool of light on dipped beam very necessary. This to maintain a reasonable and safe nightime speed, as with anything other than the quietest traffic conditions there is little or no opportunity to use main beam. The argument that bright lights dazzle is lost if the dip cutoff is of correct pattern and adjusted properly. My observations are that LED headlamps with dedicated optics have a far more accurate and severe cut-off than their halogen or earlier equivalents.
