There are a couple posts on the forum about the HiSpec billet 4 pod brakes. I installed them today on my 1984 Morgan 4/4. However, I ran into issues getting the rear brake pads in. The pads are 98mm wide and 60mm high (15,4mm thick) - Unfortunately, the rear pads touch the stub-axle which means I cannot slide in the pin that secures the pads in the caliper. The pads I have are Ferodo FDB813

Has anybody ran across this issues before?
I can think for two possible solutions:
a) getting brake pads that are just 58mm high (I tried a search engine - without success)
b) filing away a bit of material from the stub-axle (maybe not the best idea as this is the area where the bolts that secure the calipers to the stub axle are located)

Yep had the same problem on mine - I don't think its the stub axle that it fouls on, I think it's the brake caliper mounting plate.

I went for a very low tech approx and trimmed a smidge of the corners of the inner pad. Done about 3000 miles will no ill effects....

When I need to replace the pads, I'll probably remove the caliper and trim down the mounting plate.I think a chamfer should do the trick..

If I understand this correct you would suggest to file away the area I (roughly) marked in red here ?
The stub axle has approx 12mm material at this point.... I would need to take away ~2 mill..

I notice on your journal you are going to talk to Tim Eyres - I'd be interested in their solution.

You have to file a bit of the caliper bracket away to make them fit

I'm pretty sure you could remove 2mm from there without any structural impact. Would need to be the full width - more of a 'notch', although be very difficult to do neatly in situ.

Yes - I already wrote him an email. It is already good to know that you (and maybe others) also ran into the same issue. I wish David Welling's excellent book on maintaining a Modern Traditional Morgan would cover a section on modern upgrades for earlier Morgan's as well... Looks like we need to write this...
