Interesting reading, for me at least Here is paragraph from the "Acceptable changes" section "They are changes of a type which can be demonstrated to have been made when vehicles of the type were in production or within 10 years of the end of production" So, if I read this correctly, as the 4/4 was in production until this year, one could fit any engine that was used during that production period or might have been used during that period. It can be demonstrated that the Vauxhall engine conversions were done during that period so could be used now and still retain historic status. I guess rules can have many different interpretations to suit the user.

Thanks again, So i have now found a 5 speed sierra box and was lucky enough to find an older bell housing that will take a clutch slave cylinder, i didn't want a cable .So more questions ! Engine mountings are the Ford mountings used or are Morgan different ? I think i have read on another post that the ford Crossflow 4 branch manifold does not fit .How much power would be lost by fitting a standard manifold ..The carb that came with the engine is a twin downdraft webber. good enough ? . I think the points will have to go and be replaced with a simple electronic ignition. Before i strip the engine i may trial fit into the Chassis along with the gearbox , i don't want too many surprises after the Chassis has been painted.

Here's some pics of the engine mounts I took for reference when I was stripping mine down .... one of these each side of the block then a rubber donut then another pressed steel mount to the chassis. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/11/21/DSC_0251.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/11/21/DSC_0252.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/11/21/20201121_163103.jpg) If you want better pics of the mounts let me know and I'll take a couple when it's lighter tomorrow K

There's all sorts of pics that might be good for reference on my sort of build blog thing in the 'Morgan Gallery' section .... there's likely better build blogs if you're willing to delve back into the archives .... look forward to seeing your progress on the rebuild.

Mick
The standard GT spec crossflow manifold won't fit, the headers can be kept but you will need to modify the bottom part to fit through the hole in the inner wing.
In theory you will loose perhaps loose 10-15 bhp if you use a standard cast manifold.
I have a couple of spare 4/4 tubular manfolds, one steel and one stainless, PM me your details and I'll sort out some photos.
The carb should be a 32/36 DGV with a manual choke. With a bit of careful setting up, a decent cam and head work, good for about 120 bhp, ultimate would be a set of 40 DCOE or 40 DHLA but i) you really need a lot of head work to reap the benefits and ii) a lot of work getting them to fit especially to the bonnets!
Check the carb spindle very carefully, if its really worn, consider a new carb rather than a rebuild as they may be cheaper!
Just check your bellhousing very carefully, I could be wrong but I'm not aware of a Type 9 bellhousing using a hydraulic slave cylinder unless its an aftermarket one. I use an alloy copy of the standard Sierra bellhousing but with a concentric slave cylinder arrangement. Result is a very light pedal.
You will need to change the front UJ joint on the propshaft to mate with the Type 9 output shaft. My local propshaft specialist did this for 65 quid.
Hope this helps
Arwyn
