Mine ticks over at 750 - 800 rpm.
But around 1,100rpm when cold and warming up.
It's a 3.9 unmodified Hotwire.

IF you have fitted the "newer" type of Librands manifolds where each bank exits through the chassis on the same side , then you don't need to swap over the wiring loom between the sensors. If you have the older "crossover" type where the pipes do cross over under the sump , then the wiring swap is essential.

My twopenneth , for what it is worth, is to check for air leaks in the manifolds, junctions, and mating surfaces very throughly. as this will definitely effect the idle speed.

The quickest way to check the air mass sensor is to swap it with a known good one , which can be challenging to arrange, but ask here nicely and someone might be near enough to you.

Good luck

Richard; 750-800 rpm is the correct idle 1100-1200 is way too high, mine is at 900 rpm because I have the Tornado Chip installed.

Bruce, thanks for confirming the idle revs, it sounds right there whereas when the engine is cold it's racing a bit to me at the higher revs.

I hadn't appreciated that the Tornado required a higher tick over either, every day is a school day.

Thanks. My Librands do not cross over.
Tick over is correct for about 1 minute then just stops as if it has been switched off.

Lifes motors tried a known good MAF sensor and ECU..

I had a problem on my 97 +4 so might not be relevant. It took me weeks to sort trying changes of sensors, ecu etc. In the end it was simple, the stepper motor drives a cam which acts on a brass pin which goes through the throttle body to act on the butterfly. This brass pin was sticking and after disassembly and a good clean my problems were solved.

Thanks Tim.
All roads seem to point to the stepper motor. I must look at it again.

I am not sure if you have seen this but GoMog has lots of info.
Gomog

On my 97 +4 it was the ECU failing, but this is not the same ECU as yours.
