As said above price isn't everything. If you are a long distance tourer also check countries covered by green card post Jan 1. We had problems in the Balkans back in 2015. Had to buy local insurance x2 (Albania, Montenegro) despite supposedly having documentary proof of insurance cover. Headley after appealing via Hiscox refunded our €100 outlay. Really happy with Headley and I pay £320. I was with Headley for many years until I moved to France - always had great service.

Been with Headley for years; competitive. Although hardly relevant this year, they include European Breakdown.

I suspect it matters not a jot if you have been with one broker or another for years...? I also suspect what really matters is how many hoops you might have to jump through to arrive at what might seem a reasonable settlement of a claim...?
I seem to remember of one Morganeer who had real issues of what seemed to be treatment far below "reasonable" treatment by a Morgan specialist broker, in trying to resolve a claim, where he had to put what seems rather a lot of effort into arguing that his Morgan was "repairable" and not the write off that the seemingly less than skilled assessor claimed it was.. From a dull memory the Morgan was eventually repaired...
OK,OK so there are two sides to any story... But, perhaps worth considering the sad experiences of others...?
I have been with my Morgan specialist insurer for circa 18 years and fortunately never made a claim, does that equate to them being worthy of recommendation to others.. nice folk though they seem to be..?
On foreign travel... Might also be well worth reading the small print lest you find on your agreed value fully comp policy that when in foreign parts your cover drops to what ever the local minimum legal cover is acceptable in that country... which is likely to be WAY WAY short of your expectations of the insurance you THOUGHT you bought..?
Might be best to tread carefully chaps.

My experience this year is that you need a good broker to push the insurers. My S1 is still being rebuilt. It took 2 months for the assessors to agree the estimate. That has involved two garages assessing the car. The cost will be c £30k vs an agreed value of £36k.
With Karen's help at Headley I got a hire car via my legal cover paid for the other party in a no fault claim for my side. He fortunately stated it was his fault from the start.
The delay has been increased by the slow speed of MMC supplying parts. If I am lucky the dealer will complete the repair ,get paid & then buy the car off me before the New Year. The accident was in August.

I was sorry to read of your accident when you shared it back then and none too surprised to also read just what a pain it can be to resolve matters to any reasonable degree. I lost my very first car as a newly married freshly mortgaged up to the hilt youngster, to a stupid student who`s father engaged a lawyer immediately after the bump which was primarily his fault, I hit him..
I saw him arrive and give way on a side road to the dual carriageway on which I was travelling, he had time to cross in front to get to the break in the cenral reservation, but his car coughed, it was winter and suspect the engine was still cold, at which stage I did not then expect him then to proceed, he may have pulled out the choke and did proceed at which stage I hit him...so in the days long before dash cams, the guy with the lawyer wins...!!!!
Well no, I wrote my broker a letter carefully explaining the circumstances of the accident as well as taking time to point out that I expected better of him, through which he then made a case on my behalf to the insurance company where instead of me being found to blame, a percentage of the blame was considerably altered in my favour, Yeah Brokers may sometimes have to be leaned on, much as may have been the case in the Morgan specialist brokers case I mentioned previously. I think that unfortunate situation appeared in a JockMog magazine a year or two back..?

That makes all the difference John, it would perhaps be entirely different if you were cash strapped as was I and dependent on a car for work, with no other transport available as was I at the time of my cars loss. Edited my post re freshly married etc.... Duh !

I recently renewed my (Plus 4, sorry for the topic drift!) with Headley's who insisted on having the agreed valuation certified by a main dealer which I believe will suffice for the next couple of years.
This wasn't a problem as it coincided with my annual main dealer service.
However, I will probably have my car serviced by Matty at (ex) Lifes in future now it is 3 years past warranty.
Are there other insurance providers/brokers who don't insist on main dealer certification?

If you want agreed value (in case of total loss) then you will need an approved valuation, well worth having otherwise your insurer is allowed to reduce to 'market value'
It's sort of a bit like paying Gap Insurance on a tintop
