The problem with the wheels is the wheel nuts are aluminum and in reality should be changed each racing season. The S1 & GTN is between 16-19 years old and most people have never changed the wheel nuts. The aluminum threads deteriorate over time. It seems that tightening to 400nm then means that the nut isn't always lined up perfectly with the cut out in the hub for the grub screw. I have recently replaces all 4 wheel nuts and would suggest anyone keeping their car for a long time consider doing the same. It is a cheaper option than repairing wing damage if a wheel comes loose and cheaper than switching out to non centre-lock wheels.

I had a S1 for just over 2years and on the whole the ownership experience was good. The car was generally admired and while not fast was good enough in todays over powered turbo days. However 2 areas that did sour for me, but both can be avoided I suspect.
Firstly, much of the public do not care for your property. I had incidents where returning to the car at a petrol station I found a bloke sat in it posing for pics with his mates. I had a member of the public at the Silverstone supercar Sunday event use her foot on the front splitter "to see what it was made out of" and at a car show I returned to find a woman standing her child on the running boards for pictures next to the car....further she was must put out when I told her not to stand her child on my car.
Secondly, the "Morgan tax" on repairs and the attitude of dealers. I had two dealers and both made me feel like a cash cow rather than a valued customer. Two separate incidents where repair bills were totally out of line with the actual fault and no discussion had taken place about solutions prior to starting the work or items were missed at service only to fail days later and insure duplicated cost.
I suspect the first area can be removed by never helping charity events? The second area only serves to reinforce my believe that before purchasing any mildly exotic/fancy car, form a relationship with the supporting garages.

Interesting account.
Agreed, people can be so ignoywhen it comes to other people’s property, quite amazing.
I used to love sitting in the car waiting for my woman and listening to people’s comments. Some people were beside themselves in awe and wondering what it is. Other people absolutely horrified at its ugliness. Hahaha.
I’ve always found my S1’s really lively and whilst most would say it’s relative to what you’re used to I have a stash of very lively cars.
But as per usual, finding a dealership you can relate to is key. I’m a big supporter of BHM, helpful is an understatement and they ALWAYS call before spending my money.

Strewth! I've never had that sort of unwanted attention - nothing more than a nick in the paint at a Blenheim event. But I don't know what goes on when I'm away from the car: I do remember seeing dashcam footage from Ale72's Supersports - and it's full of admiring glances. As my Aero's a convertible I've found a dashcam set that's weatherproof and small enough to fit without spoiling the car's looks. It's going on next month. https://innovv.co.uk/products/k2-dashcam/Will

Now Morganless, I am sure the new owner will be along tomorrow as he has a long journey home to Gloucester.
Hope he enjoys the car.

Hi Shaun and welcome I came from Lotus (Series 1 Elise,111S) to a Morgan Aero 8 ,series 1 (complete with squint eyes!). My S1 - ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2017/11/08/2017-11-08-11.35.43.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2017/11/08/2017-11-08-11.35.08.jpg) No regrets from me (or my wife who found the Elise too track focussed). You will get different opinions ,but personally, I like the S1 'original' look complete with 'gangster' roof, centre lock wheels and lower boot lid. After the S1, the cockpit was widened slightly and the boot lid was raised (a la whale tail) together with other revisions. You can search TM for a 'buyers guide' which is very informative and useful. My advice is to get a car with a few miles and regular use on it rather than a 'garage queen' as they don't like sitting around unused. Any other queries, fire away - there are several S1 owners on the forum who will be happy to help.... James Interesting that a number of us have had Lotus backgrounds ... I have had a 111S, a 111R and a 340R. All great cars, but the Aero S1 has been the best experience and like others, likely to be kept until infirmity stops me getting in and out!!! Hopefully a wee while to go yet!
