I have lurked long enough. To make up for it, here is the list of steps involved in removing the dashboard from a (my) 1987 4/4 4-seater.

Removing the dashboard:
> Disconnect battery
(> Remove GPS socket - accessory in glove-box)
> Remove glove-box, optional
(> Remove map-reading lamp - accessory on dashboard)
(> Remove ‘Start engine’ button)
(> Remove horn button)
> Remove rev. counter
> Remove speedometer
> Remove bolts holding steering column to brackets
> Drop steering column
> Remove steering column cowl
> Remove lower screws from center panel
> Slacken upper screws on center panel
> Remove middle upper screw from center panel
> Run cable tie through middle screw hole of center panel up and around rear view mirror rod
> Remove remaining upper screws from center panel; the center panel hangs free, supported by cable tie
> Angle bottom of dashboard towards you
> Remove dashboard
> Cheer quietly and award oneself a mug of coffee or a glass of whisky, according to taste.

The steps shown in brackets involve 'local' modifications

N.B. Before removing instruments and switches, group and label their wires.

Fitting the dashboard:
Carry out the operations shown above in the opposite order, I think. It should work but I won't be trying it before Christmas so you're on your own until then.
N.B. The quiet cheer should nonetheless be saved for last whereas the coffee/whisky may be be taken before starting, should the courage required to do the job be in any way lacking.

Addition:
Before angling the dashboard towards you, remove the two screws on the ends of it.
