DRIVE SHAFTS, DIFF & PROP SHAFTS (HOVER OVER LABELS TO VIEW PART & NUMBERS)
#. PART NUMBER PART NAME
1. MRA20703 PROPSHAFT MAN
2. MRA20704 PROPSHAFT AUTO

Thanks, eventually found the same numbers but will let the dealer determine if it's MRA 20704 (Which is for the Supersport but may be the same for the S4 which also uses the 4.8 engine and Auto box) otherwise picked upon the S2 - 2016 pdf T12046 (Though I'm not convinced this is right as could be for the 4.4 engine) confused. Hopefully the factory will know though been 2 days now waiting to hear tumbleweed

Will be getting under before the next drive to check mine.

Just a thought could anyone answer if a manual or auto would put more stress through the propshaft? I wonder if the torque converter absorbs some of the stress when driven hard?

It doesn't look a complicated bit of kit for any propshaft engineer to make a copy of.

You don't need to get an OEM shaft. There are some excellent prop shaft manufacturers and I have attached a link to one of the best IMHO.

Used to supply them when I worked for Dana Spicer many years ago.

Bailey Morris Propshafts

Give them a call and explain your predicament and they will advise the best course of action.

BTW, if you can get your shaft to Bailey Morris they will be able to determine the probable cause of the failure.

Thanks Bob,
I will try them tomorrow to see if they can make one to factory spec without my old 1. My reasoning which I've shared with Dean who knows a similar company up north is I gues the car would be taking up a ramp to have the rear suspension dropped to remove the old propshaft so don't want to be paying expensive Morgan labour rates to reassemble suspension to remove car from ramp to later once new propshaft arrives to reverse the process. So I see most cost effective solution is a new propshaft to be installed straight after removal of the split 1 (I'm not mechanically minded...but can design and build houses laugh2).

Cheers

Difficult to say without knowing the frequency of the vibration, but I would have thought it fairly likely. Wont be the split itself but the prop shaft is now likely not to be straight. I can vouch from boat experience that when a prop shaft bends it vibrates the structure quite badly. And that vibration varies with road speed not engine speed.

I suggest you try going down a nice flat bit of road at the same speed but in different gears. If then the vibration stays the same you can be sure that its caused by something in the drive train after the gearbox. Go a little bit faster and the vibe should speed up. The sort of vibe you get from wheel balance iis a resonance vibe occurring at a speed band. The vibe from that shaft should occurr at all speeds.

Anyway, get it replaced. If that shaft fails in use it will flair about and cut through the structure and you with ease

Andrew,

Please be very, very careful.

If the MMC supplier of the new shaft is the same supplier as the old shaft , then I would want to know why the old shaft failed.

Has the supplier made changes, was it just bad luck in your case, is the supplier using inferior quality tubing or maybe it just had a knock.

In my prop shaft days, the OEM would want a full investigation into a failure like that. Root cause analysis etc.sherlock

So many things to worry about.
