I agree on both counts, he really is the complete personification of all that was wrong with the last century let alone this one.

As you probably know Dartmouth is our nearest town and it's quite a dicotomy of resident knobs/time shares yachties and a fair amount of zero hours couples struggling away. There are very few career jobs in the area at all.

Last year the plea went out for contributions to the food bank which was responded to well but this year they are really struggling for contributions as all the true local workforce has found no spare whatsoever.
Heather adds a few items twice a week during the shop to the collecting baskets in Sainsbury's and Lidl, but it's a drop in the ocean this year for them but there's only so much you can do.

Sad that this is happening in the UK. Unbelievable really. But This is what happens when people buy their cheap crap from China and the like. Do people really think its this tory government that is solely responsible for food banks in the uk ?
There is no industry here anymore to keep people in jobs, most of it is farmed out to Asia. No jobs, no money, no money no food poor areas get poorer. Its not rocket science.

Bring as much industry as poss back here and things would change. But, Noooooo, people want to pay sweet FA for badly made crap so things wont change.

From what I saw in my career, I would say that poor strategic thinking from Boards of Directors, incompetent middle management, asset stripping by 'investors', and short-term profit pressure from shareholders are all significant factors too. But yes, people are too prepared to buy crap without questioning where and how it was produced.

Bonsie I don't disagree with the underlying message but I am sad to say that quite a lot of the not so cheap crappy stuff is also made in China and other offshore locations. It's not the quality that mandates the source?

It's not a British issue, ask anyone in most of the EU, Australia and other places about offshoring and you will find the answer consistent.

Have a look at companies like Dyson, Ineos and others and ask yourself what has driven them away.
Why is Amazon able to make such profits.
Vodafone seem to reside in Luxembourg (which is part of the EU right, yet tax seems oddly different)

My mini rant is a simplified observation. I know its a lot more complex than just bringing jobs back here, however, people cant just blame the tories. Asking big tech and few super wealthy to pay their fair share of taxes wont solve the issue alone.

Nothing wrong with capitalism, without it we would be right up the swanee without a paddle!!! I am in no way a political animal but perhaps what we could do with is a lot less political dogma from all sides, more will to work together and a sensible tax system which encourages inward investment so that everyone gets a chance to succeed acording to their ability. Just over taxing the high earners does nothing to help the poorest people and it's certainly not just the Conservative government who are resposible for our problems such as they are. Why for instance haven't we borrowed loads of money whilst it is dirt cheap and set to rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure, this would provide loads of jobs and start to get us back where we should be. This may then encourage companies to invest in our great country and start an upward spiral of wealth which could then begin to help those more in need.
