During the current Covid crisis this story has new meaning. If you are ever in the area there is a great museum in the lovely village of Eyam (Eem) and some great Morgan driving country.
I was inspired to post it after the scenes of London’s mainline railway stations being packed as travellers departed to the furthest corners of the land transmitting who knows what.

I am sure the locals of these 2nd homes places will be sharpening their pitch forks and readying their firebrands as we speak, to give them a warm welcome!

We are all used to the selfish Darwinians after the previous two runs at it down here this year including sending their clothes etc by courier in a vain attempt to cover their tracks, stupid does what stupid is you can run but you can't hide.

The local Constabulary have had a few calls already I'm led to believe.

Been there a few times. Also great walking country in the region.

The irony is that the Village of Tissington which is not much more than a stones throw away by and large avoided the plague owing to the relatively pure well water they had in the village.

They celebrate each year by dressing the wells.

Don't know what the Covid numbers have been in the village.

A lady from Eyam was spotted in nearby Bakewell and stoned to death !
All money was deposited in vinegar before traders took it for goods.
Worth a visit to the museum to see the cures in the past !

Indeed there is a stone on the outskirts of Eyam where essentials were brought with a hollow in it for money to be left in return. Said hollow had vinegar in.
As you say the museum is excellent and has a big car park opposite.

We've been in Eyam in 2017, before visiting Run for the Hills. We stayed in The Barrel Inn and made a lovely walk form there to Eyam and back. On the way we passed the Place where the Well Dressings (In Foolow?) were prepared, and made a small contribution. It was a very nice walk and the stories told on displays in the Plague Village were impressive. But the times seemed such a long time ago then. As an Internist in The Netherlands who is daily confronted with Covid in the Hospital, especially these days, I often think of this village and it's history. It was an early example of isolation! Nowadays, self isolation seems very difficult for some people who deny the Covid truth!

Isn’t it surprising though that Cornwall turned out to be the only mainland uk area to be in tier 1, despite the influx of summer visitors and the south west in general has fared much better than the rest of the country. Could it be down to those people mingling outdoors rather than indoors and of course, the second home owners are generally more self contained. (Having said that, I would still subscribe to road blocks on the Tamar Bridge and Bodmin Moor!)
