I have pondered that too especially as my Son and his Girlfriend work in the holiday industry in the Newquay area and don’t remember a busier time then when the brakes came off earlier this year.
I think the outside activities have to be the key to it, just as mad down here too at the same time and the second home owners are a bit more self contained so could well explain the low incidence down here.
It will be interesting to see how many are around tomorrow when we go to Dartmouth.

A stop at the Tamar would be a good move to protect them as they have such inadequate healthcare provision for an outbreak of Covid.

yesterday I was discharged from Torbay Hospital after 4 days having been blue lighted in. I asked the question of one of the registrars. Cornwall has no high density of University students Many of the East Cornwall cases get sent to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth where they get reported. . Devon has 2 large universities Plymouth and Exeter - students from all over , outside activities, people holiday and second home owners come from all over but come for relatively short time, come healthy go away healthy and spend a lot of time outside. Dartmouth they think suffers from day trippers. Chap in the next bed came from a village near Dartmouth and was part of the conversation and believes Dartmouth suffers from day trippers who come and go. Large urban areas suffer the most not too many of those down here. I am told by a friend who is an artists and works and sells her work in Salcombe that Salcombe is very quiet at the moment. The medic also felt the government were panicking about the new strain, it is spreading faster but is it as serious?

Down in South Wilts the Covid levels are very low and the local hospital is not overwhelmed.
The local MSOA , about 7500 people, has 6 positive COVID cases and the rolling rate is 75.5: most of the MSOAs in Cornwall are the same.
I think the big difference between the areas in Zones 3 and 4 is that here people visit to enjoy the big outside and there are virtually no recognisable urban centres.

As to the new strain, it has been around since the summer, the WHO reported it in Brazil back then. The virus is doing what it needed to do to survive, become more infections. Virtually all viruses do this, and they also become less of a risk to health.
I believe the Government panicked somewhat, but it is too early to tell. We will all know in a couple of weeks, if the hospitals are overwhelmed then the Government is right, if they are proved wrong there will be very many really grumpy people!

I would go along with that theory as Herefordshire where I used to live in the UK is also Tier 1, no one goes there as they think it's Hertfordshire. It is a very rural area with no Universities, no Motorways just a lot of cattle with beautiful small Black and White Timber villages. Even Hereford is a small city with not a great deal of coming and going with the "Boys" (SAS) keeping themselves to themselves.
