It’s just been announced that Peter Williams has passed away. Another great motorcycle rider and engineer legend especially with Norton Motorcycles. I met him a few times at classic bike shows and he would always make time to talk. R.I.P.

Very sad news. I met him when he had the Kawasaki dealership in Southampton when I was at University there.

As you say, a bit of a legend.

Much respect for an extremely talented rider and mechanical engineer.

The brains behind the John Player Norton.

Potential world champion on competitive machinery.

So sad.

If I still have the promo material from the period I have photos of him on JP Nortons.
Sad that he is gone.

He made an obsolete model very competitive.

My mate had a Matchless. 500 or 600cc, single. I can't remember. It fired every telegraph pole and used Hoda 50 wheels as piston rings.

Met him through my mate who writes for The Classic Motorcycle.

Very engaging man, he was the son of Jack Williams, who ran the AMC competition department.

I don't think he ever recovered fully from the accident at Oulton Park which ended his career. My Dad witnessed the accident as he was going to out as the passenger for my Uncle Ken on his racing sidecar outfit
