That sounds like it could be the thrust bearing (or throw-out bearing it's sometimes called) ..... if it also makes a noise when you rest your foot on the pedal lightly but not enough to actually disengage the clutch then it's probably this.

K

If it's the thrust bearing then it is almost certainly a ring bearing round the input shaft of the gearbox so will need the engine splitting from the gearbox to fit a replacement.

If it is this bearing the good news is that the actual part itself is cheap .... the bad news is that, unless you can do the repair yourself, the labour cost will be a hundred times the cost of the part which is always annoying frown

Vittorio, which model and year do you have? Perhaps in future it would be cheaper to order the parts in Europe from a Ford oder Rover dealer?

Vittorio .... the clutch is definitely a split engine from gearbox job .... renewing the thrust bearing will be just a little detail swept up in the main job .... and, as the bearings are so cheap, it would be something you'd do as a precaution anyway during a clutch change even if it wasn't noisy.

Vittorio .... yes, release bearing is the same thing .... it has different names .... some are older terms for it and some are used in different countries .... all mean the same thing tho .... the bearing that pushes on the fingers of the pressure plate to take the clamping force off the friction plate .
