The old Mog has been off the road now for a few months for the first time ever I just stuck some Startron petrol stabalizer in the tank just in case, this new petrol aint as good as the old stuff if left for a while......Em

That sounds very sensible, is it generally available?

I use stabil. You can get it on fleabay. But I also try to use the car.

I have for a long time used TetraBoost (the latest mix is called EGuard15).

Its makers state: "TetraBOOST contains anti-acid formulations designed to minimise the problems associated with ethanol water absorbtion and acid formulation – unbeatable both for regular driving use and over-wintering situations"

Please note: It contains genuine TetraEthyl lead and increases octane levels. It is NOT suitable for a vehicle fitted with catalytic converters or permanently-mounted 02 sensors.

Mixed with super unleaded and with a motor running commensurately more timing advance there are appreciable increases in power and efficiency.

But, over winter, there's no substitute for (on a dry day) a really hard run for at least ten miles with enthusiastic use of brakes (to free up those pesky Morgan rear slave cylinders).

I once owned a 300 gallon red diesel tank for Marine use and sometimes over the winter if you got it wrong you could be left with 2oo gals in the tank Iv'e always used a stabaliser. when i sold the tank after about 12 yrs use we drained the dregs and was very surprised only about a cupfull of water and a bit of black debris. Regarding the Startron it's personal choice there are loads out there....Em

Because of winter here at 9000ft in the Rockies my Moggies are "off" the road for around 6 months every year, I use Stabil in full tanks which is readily available and cheap from Walmart have never had any issues.

Just be careful to choose one that's safe with catalytic converters if you have a later (ish) Mog, in the good old days a splash of paraffin was used by some

In my bike I use a splash of Sta-Bil as well as some Valemaster with EthoGuard

I’ve always put a cup of metholated spirits in the tank once a year (winter) to counter the effect of any water that had found its way into the fuel tank. It was something I was advised in the 1960’s (my first car had to remain out in the street and exposed to the elements), as being a way of getting the fuel and any water to ‘blend’ and burn rather than to remain in the tank as two separate fluids. Anyone else heard of this. I know fuel stabilisation is a separate issue but perhaps the meths route might be helpful for those with ‘old girls’ like my 1962 Plus 4.
