Sospan jnr is trying to find a venue to get married later this year. Some of the quotes are exorbitant. The basic venue cost is very high in some cases and then they add on extras that I would consider included. For example, Room hire £3000, £250 per table in there, extra for everything else. Food extra, drinks, entertainment, There is a backlog of cancelled weddings due to Covid but it looks like some are increasing costs to catch back on revenue. Perhaps also it is a case of over subscription and competition for dates/locations. This is in Cardiff and a range of venues being tried and not prestige venues and not a big wedding, they don’t want every man and his dog to be there. Don't get me started........ Daughters wedding is currently planned for 31st July £5000 for hire of venue - which does not include food / drink / entertainment £1500 to "dress the room" Outdoor woodfired pizza ovens available for evening party food - minimum 75 heads -@ £10 per pizza............. £10 for a bloody pizza!!! This place - Browsholme Hall and The TithebarnCamping "pods" available for guests to stay overnight - my missus said "oh - we'll have this one" ......... another £140 quid........ I hate to think how much has been spent on her wedding dress / shoes....... Photographers booked ,,,,,, I haven't asked how much......... When I suugested the local footbal club as a venue...... It didn't go down well....... I almost hope that covid restrictions stll only allow 15 or so guests at weddings ................ It'll save me a bloody fortune (joke (with an element of truth))

Between that and all the pre-events, gift bags, matching do-dah's the industry seems to have totally overwhelmed it's original goals. Bring together two families to support two people making a lifetime commitment.

The plans for sospan jnr are in the first look stage so options are still open. He has a pizza business himself with a base in Cardiff market and does weddings, birthdays, events with mobile vans. £7 a pizza. They are damn good too. Proper Neapolitan pizza. He and his business partner did a road trip to the World Pizza championships a couple of years ago. It is on tv in Feb in 4 episodes. BBCWales initially but later on BBC mainstream. They did it in Welsh and are doing English voiceovers next week. They didn’t win but the tv series is good. Smokey Pete, the Piaggio van, set a great Monaco circuit time on route, less than 1 hour! When jnr got married it was all in a local hotel and a very good cost with discounts on overnight rooms for guests. No complaints at all.

Sospan - can you give us a heads up before it comes on, the Italian SWMBO would love to watch that.

Two points:
1) The duration of the marriage is in inverse proportion to the cost of the reception. We once attended a lovely wedding in Bristol with the reception taking place on the SS Great Britain and with water taxis to return us to our hotel after the evening do. Our water taxi (They take 20+ in Bristol IIRC) included the Bride and Groom. We were horrified when they started to row - he wanted to go off clubbing with his mates. By the following July, they had started divorce proceedings.
2) My Dad took a dislike to my Brother in Law. My sister became even more determined and a wedding was planned on a budget that she and her intended could afford without any parental input. Registry office wedding, followed by a buffet lunch in a pub. At this point, my father relented and paid the catering bill for them - which worked out substantially cheaper than if the wedding had been planned on more normal lines. So, my advice is this - as long as she plans to marry a decent chap, take a dislike to him and tell her she's on her own. It could save you a fortune. The downside is that your daughter may never forgive you though. But that could lead to further savings.

Sospan - can you give us a heads up before it comes on, the Italian SWMBO would love to watch that. Yes, please advise. I'd be interested to see it - love pizza! As for the wedding bit - Sue and I did it the easy way - Register Office, with two good friends as witnesses, lunch for the four of us at an Italian restaurant (who kept serving us drinks / coffee etc. long after their closing time - worth an extra large tip before we departed!). Told parents on the phone later in the afternoon. Spent the evening in our regular local, spilling the beans and the publican opened a bottle of bubbly (on his account) when he found out. As for Paul's comment on the expense / inverse time rule - I have a cousin that came under that. Mind you I thought it strange when I met his future bride that she "regarded him as an investment for the future"...

Update....... sospan jnr just called. Trailers for the 4 episode series are starting tomorrow on BBC Wales. Not sure when the actual series starts yet. The originals were in Welsh but he and his mate have been in doing English dubbing/voiceovers. You might be able to see the BBC Wales channel on Sky/other satellites or on internet viewing sites. There is a plan to put the series out on BBC non Wales channels soon after. There has been a glitch over the name of the series. The original they filmed was “Bois y Pizza” Welsh for Pizza Boys but there is another pizza business with that name so the name is not certain yet. I’ll see if I can get a better idea off jnr or spot the trailers.

Not sure if this is back on thread or not- no 🍕📺 recommendations- but I did get my small respray done for a tad under £300- repaint as necessary and re lacquer fully- just the front wing. I removed the bumper and treads saving an hour or so labour I guess. I'm very happy with the result. ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2021/02/17/20210217_130557.jpg) Now to decide whether to replace the bumper with over riders and number plate box, and wing mirrors in place of the wing lights. I quite like the look without the tread rubbers as well TBH ( minus the mounting holes). 😔 ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2021/02/17/20210217_130625.jpg)
