I have a half-wood wheel on my DB7 but the wood and leather are the opposite way round, with the wood at the top and bottom. Looks great. Not sure about the light coloured wood on yours.

I think it's more of a Yoke (not a full circle), rather than a wheel. The leather bits showing through are from the steering wheel behind.
