You don't need to remove the cowl to change radiators, it all goes in from underneath

I mis-read the by-line as 'removing a roadster cow!. I'm sure the RSPCA would get involved.

I Dad hit a cow near Churston driving a GWR saddle tank engine. Apparently it made quite a mess. He also ran over someone who jumped out to commit suicide which was far less fun.

I had the misfortune to be on a Cross Country Voyager which hit a jumper at Tamworth. The station there is a favourite jumper spot due to fast through trains.
Although I was in the rear carriage it really did feel as if we were derailing. After a long delay, a really long delay, they took us forward very slowly to Burton, where we got off. The train then went back to the depot which is between Burton and Lichfield. The mess on the front of that Voyager and the large hole was very sobering.

Less gruesomely ..... hitting a cow is no joke in a car .... friend of mine was badly injured in such a collision .... round here Welsh Black cows are popular .... as the name suggests they're very hard to see at night especially in poor weather .... they weigh half a ton and all that weight is on stilts .... unlike a normal collision such as with another car, you run straight under them and the full half ton bypasses all your crumple zones and hits you smack in the windscreen .... like under-running a lorry in the bad old days before they had protection.
The only good thing is that the sound of your car approaching mostly gets their attention so they turn and look ... their eyes light up like cats-eyes in your headlights giving a bit of warning.
Back on track, it's good to know a radiator change can be done without disturbing the cowl or bonnet .... My standard one seems fine at the moment but should it fail I'll be on the phone to Simon.

I once hit a handsome pheasant when I was out on call (as GP) one New Year's Day. It was a nice reward for the unsocial hours and it was in a pie at the end of the week.
