Just received renewal quote for my Roadster from Gott & Wynne - £650. Thought to myself I would check prices elsewhere and came up with some interesting issues. Found out that the company used by Gott & Wynne is ERS (Equity Red Star) which seems to get the worst reviews of any insurance company going! I know a lot of people on here seem to swear by them but has anybody actually had a claim and what was your experience?

I received prices of around £400 from Heritage and Abbeyfields both of whom use KGM as the insurer which seems to get very good reviews. Peter Best came up with £584 and used LV. I therefore tried LV direct who came up with a price of £250. Interestingly the only claim I have ever had to make was when I wrote off a MX5. This was insured with LV and I had no problems with the claim and the value they offered.

I am not particularly looking for the cheapest option but the most trustworthy. Your comments appreciated.

That seems quite high with G & W I was quoted £850 for a Plus Four value 80k with Headley, I would have been happy with that had I have decided to go that route..

I`ve found Headley and the people they insure with (Aegis and Hiscox in my case) very helpful. They seem very competitive and when I have had claims they have been sorted with minimum effort. They do not charge when you phone to tweak the policy if needed as some insurers do.

Headley are nice people to deal with over 17 years with them, we have three cars, house and contents with them, nothing is ever a problem.

When the celebrity chef totaled my 4/4 Sport the cheque was with me in a fortnight,

There are cheaper outfits around but I like the feeling of security with Headley that they imbue.

When there are huge differences in premiums, I tend to smell a rat!
A close look at: excesses; agreed value or market value; foreign travel; courtesy car provision; windscreen glass replacement; NCD protection; etc
There are bargains about but the old adage of “you get what you pay for” is worth bearing in mind.

One thing to look out for is whether the insurance is valid if you leave the soft top down, I had a good quote, not the lowest but the small print specifically excluded any claims if the top was down. Tonneau in place of soft top? No sir.

Another +1 for Headley. £412 for a new Roadster 3.7 including protected NCB, agreed value, Morgan Rescue and various other add-ons. I have insured 10 Morgans with them over the last 15 years and they are very nice people to deal with.
