I am noticing rust on the 3W on the chassis tubes here and there. Does anyone have a recommendation on a rust converter/sealer to use after sanding? I read mixed reviews on the different products for this.

Hammerite Kurust works for me when maintaining my steel narrowboat and readily available in the UK. Probably more important is what you put on afterwards as primer.

+1 for Kurust.

There are various types under that brand including a Gel but go for the original liquid.

Bilt Humber also do a range of products for rust cleaning, converting, sealing. I use either Kurust or Bilt Humber.

As a preventative for the chassis tubes, use Finnigans Waxoyl.
Ok, just checked and its now made by Hammerite.

I have used this in the past, and it really does stop corrosion(rust).
Spray it in the holes in the chassis tubes, job done.

Unlike other products this stuff creeps and will really do the job.

The best rust converter is called Vactan, it is the original chemical formulated by ICI and it can be sprayed or brushed , it is water based and cheap as chips on EBay, it can be primed and painted

if the corrosion after scraping & wirebrushing isn’t severe it can be painted with a paint called Fortress from B&Q, no primer is required this paint is manufactured by Tor Paints' if you buy from them you’ll save about 30%, unfortunately I can’t remember Tor’s name for the paint , it goes on quite thick and produces a stove enamel type finish - read the tin carefully before using

Just remembered Frost. They sell a range of products. Eastwood are one who make good paints but not cheap! I used some on my first Mog chassis. They sell Por and their own brands as well. I currently have a tin of Frost chassis paint used over encapsulator and primer. I have used it on the rear axle and it is lasting really well. The solids do settle out so a good stir is needed if not used for a while.

Years ago when in a steel works lab we made our own using phosphoric acid to create a phosphate coating. The recipe is only vaguely remembered now.
