Best wishes for a swift and full recovery. Pneumonia is most unpleasant.

Same happened to me at the end of August. Unwell for 5 days inc a negative COVID test. Then a visit to local GP who prescribed cheap antibiotics (amoxicillin), which did not work followed by A&E where I was admitted to a non-COVID respiratory ward for three days. They used drip delivered stronger antibiotics, which did the trick. A very scary experience (wife waved goodbye at the door, please don’t send him/me to the COVID ward etc) and it took about a month to get over it. No idea what caused the pneumonia in the first place although suspect I may have had COVID mildly back in March.

Chris

Hi Chris,
Your info is interesting and certainly seems to be the same scenario that Steve is going through at the moment. Agree, pneumonia is not pleasant, lets wish Steve gets through it as quick as possible.

Thanks for all the kind words, Doctors confirmed I did not have Covid and is was indeed pneumonia.
Started antibiotic treatment to bring down fever. Never normal ill for more than a day or two this has certainly knocked me for six.
Makes you appreciate how good our NHS is full Mark's to them.
Hopefully now on the mend.
Stay safe everybody

Pneumonia isn't to be taken lightly.

Back in the mid 90s I was travelling long haul extensively and picked up a chest infection that I ignored It was one of those trips where you spend a day or two in one place and move on, this went on for 10 days. I ended up in Laramie, Wyoming which is at 7000ft and collapsed over lunch. Doctor, Azithromycin and a few days in bed allowed mt to recover enough to fly home, but it took a week or more to really get over it.

Roll on 25 years in 2016 I was in Delhi and a repeat episode, this time a different antibiotic, based on a culture from coughed up phlegm and a CT scan: the CT scan showed that I had Bronchiectasis, a disease of the small airways caused by repeated lung infections and flying: it cannot be reversed, but can be managed.

So I have enormous sympathy for anyone who can't breath properly, it is frightening.
Take care Steve, see you when we are allowed!

Yes, pneumonia can be deadly. I had a great aunt die from it and her father was a doctor and could do nothing. Granted, it was before wonder drugs but it killed her in a week and she was a physically active world traveler.
