How would you like to be the passenger seated close to this engine? This was a United Boeing 777 that just departed Denver enroute to Honolulu when one of two engines exploded. The plane was fully loaded and immediately turned around and safely landed. Wow!

NO in a word, this got extensive coverage over on this side of the water and the ironmongery that fell off was pretty impressive nothing short of a miracle that nobody on the ground was injured.

I wonder who got all the fuel they must have dumped before landing ?

Another Boeing incident that they could well have done without I imagine.

Bit of a Donnie Darko moment for the householder .... was on a Laker flight (that dates me!!) that had an engine go on takeoff from New York .... fortunately with time to abort before the end of the runway .... as he was what is now known as a 'disruptor' no one would take any of his passengers as they were trying to freeze him out .... ended up with four free days in a hotel in NY ... nice mini-holiday.

The picture of the cowling on the ground appears to show it just missed a giant SUV by inches.

There is much comment in the aviation press. the P&W 4000 series engine is exclusive to the early 777-200 series and they are getting rather old.
The P&W 4000 dates back to 1986, there are thousands in use.

The 4000-112 engine is exclusive to the 777-200, it uses novel hollow compressor blades that are difficult to crack test. As they age the probability of cracks propagating into fractures seems to increase.
There 69 in-service and 59 in-storage Boeing 777 jets fitted with these engines, all have been grounded for further inspection and testing. It is likely that the FAA will require more frequent NDT once the engines reach a certain number of hours, which is likely to be uneconomical on 25+ year old aircraft: the 200s entered service in 1995/1996. Many operators of older 777s have already retired them.

Bottom line: don't worry.

At 1:06 you can see the damaged roof on the truck as it bounced.

You see there are benefits of running an SUV, they can take being landed on by various plane parts and just shrug it off. Couldn't do that with a Tesla. wink laugh2

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
